Syringe services programs (SSPs) are community-based programs that distribute free supplies, including sterile syringes and injection-related equipment, and are essential to reducing harms associated with substance use among people who use drugs. RTI International, with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), leads the Strengthening Syringe Services project, which includes administering the National Survey of Syringe Services Programs (NSSP) and other mechanisms for gathering information on SSP needs to inform allocation of resources, implement new interventions, and ensure consistent public health messaging.
Facente Consulting is facilitating quarterly meetings for a newly formed Community Advisory Team (CAT) that represents the needs of SSPs at the frontlines of the ongoing overdose crisis in the United States. The CAT will provide guidance on all components of the Strengthing Syringe Services project.
