International Overdose Awareness Day, held on August 31st annually, prompts communities to raise awareness of and take action to prevent overdose. Many localities host International Overdose Awareness Day events that convene community members, provide education about overdose prevention, counter stigma related to drug use, acknowledge the pain of losing someone to overdose, and mobilize community members to get involved in overdose prevention efforts.
The Santa Clara County Public Health Department hired Facente Consulting to plan for implementation of International Overdose Awareness Days in 2025 and 2026, which includes coordination of diverse community partners and facilitation of structured meetings that support event planning. Facente Consulting will also be responsible for designing and implementing an evaluation of each International Overdose Awareness Day event.
