The World Health Organization (WHO) Working Group on HIV Incidence Measurement and Data Use was established in 2008 to look into the issues and challenges involved in assay-based HIV incidence estimation. This group is comprised of epidemiologists, laboratory specialists, and public health officials, and has worked to standardize terminology in the areas of assay calibration and validation, as well as statistical methods for the estimation of HIV incidence using population-based surveys and serological strategies (e.g., recent infection testing algorithms, or RITAs).
Facente Consulting was hired to attend a meeting of the WHO Working Group on HIV Incidence Measurement and Data Use in Boston, MA as a “rapporteur,” preparing a formal meeting report describing the meeting and summarizing key findings. This report is frequently referenced as a technical resource in the field of HIV incidence measurement.
