SFDPH Jail Health Action Planning

San Francisco Department of Public Health

San Francisco Department of Public Health Jail Health Services (SFDPH JHS) provides a system of comprehensive, compassionate, and respectful care for incarcerated people in San Francisco. In 2024, SFDPH JHS sought to further develop a trauma-informed work culture for its staff while improving quality assurance for jail-based HIV, hepatitis C, and sexually transmitted infection (STI) services.

In early 2025, Facente Consulting planned and facilitated a one-day retreat for JHS staff. At the retreat, we led staff through a series of activities and discussions focused on (i) identifying core values to guide their work, (ii) reflecting on past successes and challenges, (iii) supporting the wellness of JHS staff through trauma-informed approaches, and (iv) improving data quality and protocols related to HIV, hepatitis C, and STI services. The retreat concluded with action planning to develop a list of specific strategies that SFDPH JHS can implement moving forward.
