The San Francisco AIDS Foundation (SFAF) is a large organization dedicated to supporting health, wellness, and social justice for communities most impacted by HIV. In 2018, SFAF hired Facente Consulting to help them develop a five-year strategic plan—their first strategic plan in over 15 years. When the plan was finished, the organization asked Facente Consulting to develop a comprehensive evaluation plan to measure potential changes in client outcomes following the implementation of the strategic plan. In addition to conceptual design of the evaluation process, SFAF sought help with statistical analyses of some of their existing data, including supporting their data analysis staff to use R statistical software and developing a series of papers for peer-reviewed publication.
For two years in a row, Facente Consulting interviewed staff members, clients, and community members who are eligible for SFAF services but do not currently receive them, with a focus on the four communities that the organization seeks to better serve: people who are trans and gender non-conforming, Black/African Americans, Latines with limited or no English proficiency, and people over the age of 50 living with HIV. The qualitative interview data were synthesized alongside quantitative analysis of programmatic data. Findings were used to measure progress toward the goals of the strategic plan and to inform continuous quality improvement of SFAF programming.
