Needs Assessment about Drug User Health in San Francisco

San Francisco Department of Public Health

The San Francisco Department of Public Health approached Facente Consulting to conduct a needs assessment related to the health of people who use drugs (PWUD) in San Francisco, focusing on: (1) gaining a better understanding of the rapidly evolving needs of PWUD in light of the enduring presence of fentanyl in the drug supply, (2) how to reframe services for PWUD to fill service gaps, reduce barriers, and maximize the impact of SFDPH’s various interventions and activities, and (3) exploring the root causes of racial disparities in overdose rates among Black/African American San Franciscans.

Facente Consulting proposed conducting a landscape analysis and using qualitative methods to gather information from key stakeholders. The final deliverables will be a report for SFDPH’s internal use with recommendations; an action plan and an analysis from a racial equity lens on Black/African American overdose rates and interventions; a slide deck of the findings; a graphically designed, public-facing two-page summary with high-level themes; and a presentation to SFDPH staff.
