In 2019, the Division of Workforce Development (DWD) at CDC (then called the Division of Scientific Education and Professional Development) developed a strategic framework to guide their work over the following five years. One year later the COVID-19 pandemic hit, bringing massive changes to both the public health workforce and the political climate surrounding public health in the United States. As a result, in 2023 the Division decided they needed to review their strategic framework and make updates to reflect the new public health landscape.
DWD first hired an external consulting firm to develop a detailed environmental scan, then reached out to Facente Consulting to help update the strategic framework, following on the findings in that report. We worked with senior leadership at DWD to review the original strategic framework and determine the desired high-level updates, then facilitated a series of surveys, in-person sessions and virtual meetings with leadership throughout the Division to determine what updates were needed to the framework to guide them in the future.
