Formal Assessment of the Landscape of Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT) in California

The Center at Sierra Health Foundation

Medications for addiction treatment (MAT) like methadone and buprenorphine play a critical role in addressing the ongoing opioid epidemic in California, and have been linked to reduced homelessness, increased employment, and decreased drug use. However, access to MAT is limited, especially for people who use opioids who belong to communities that have been systematically marginalized.

The Center at Sierra Health Foundation hired Facente Consulting to examine California’s current system of MAT services and make recommendations to improve access to them. Facente Consulting (i) conducted a landscape analysis of current MAT services and trends in California, (ii) developed video-based case studies of California organizations that offer MAT, and (iii) created policy briefs about MAT services for California policymakers and partners. All deliverables provided specific recommendations and key insights for equitably expanding MAT access across the state.
