Affirming Trans Access to Housing Curriculum Development

San Francisco Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing

Project Years: 2023-2024

In San Francisco, transgender and gender nonconforming people are eighteen times more likely to experience homelessness compared to the general population. In 2022, San Francisco Mayor London Breed announced the Ending Transgender Homelessness Initiative, a plan to end trans homelessness within five years. The plan is a collaborative effort between the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD), the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH), the Department of Public Health (DPH), the Office of Transgender Initiatives (OTI), and nonprofit organizations serving TGNC people who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness.

Facente Consulting worked with La Femme Consulting to develop and design the Affirming Trans Access to Housing curriculum, which will be delivered to all HSH-funded and supported community-based agencies that provide direct services within San Francisco’s homelessness response systems. We utilized exisiting content and developed new content to create an engaging four-hour live training, with the goal of enhancing cultural humility and competency in equitable service provision for all housing providers.
