Evaluating and Communicating the Impact of Syringe Service Programs Providing Access to MAT

The Center at Sierra Health Foundation

The Center at the Sierra Health Foundation funds numerous projects focused on expanding Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder in California. As part of this work, The Center has funded Cailfornia syringe services programs (SSPs) to offer low-barrier MAT. While The Center has collected some data from SSP-led MAT projects, they seek to more deeply explore the models by which SSPs are providing MAT, as well as the impact of these SSP-led models.

In fall 2025, The Center hired Facente Consulting to integrate existing SSP-based MAT program data with newly collected data from funded SSPs. Facente Consulting will interview SSP staff to understand how they are implementing MAT programs and use qualitative analysis techniques to identify key themes. Facente Consulting will also help The Center communicate the findings from SSP interviews in the form of a short video, a report, infographics, and policy briefs.
