Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, and Iowa have been particularly hard-hit by the opioid epidemic, but are in politically challenging environments for the implementation of harm reduction work. To support harm reduction efforts among interested programs in these regions, the Mid-America Addiction Technology Training Center (Mid-America ATTC) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City started a harm reduction consultation program in 2022.
Facente Consulting worked with the Mid-America ATTC to design and implement the harm reduction consultation program. This process included designing a harm reduction readiness assessment to be delivered to participating programs and subsequently developing and implementing technical assistance plans in response to the assessment findings. After the initial phase of work, Facente Consulting was asked to play a lead role in the delivery of the ATTC’s technical assistance, which included designing and providing harm reduction trainings, developing organizational policies, and supporting other forms of harm reduction implementation work.
