Evaluation Training and Technical Assistance for Oncology Programs

Gilead Sciences

Project Years: 2021-2025

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the US, and disproportionately affects people of color due to a combination of structural, economic, and socio-environmental inequities. The Gilead Oncology Corporate Giving Program seeks to remove barriers to accessing prevention, treatment, and survivorship services in order to improve health outcomes and health equity. To that end, this program funds patient-centered programs and other efforts that promote racial and health equity. Gilead sought to evaluate grantee programs to demonstrate their reach and impact, and to build grantee capacity to conduct regular and ongoing evaluation.

Gilead hired Facente Consulting to provide technical assistance to grantees to evaluate the effectiveness of their program strategies. Using the Results-Based Accountability (RBA™) framework, we are training grantees to design and track performance measures that generate meaningful data that (i) showcases their impact and (ii) reveals areas for improvement. By the end of their grant cycle, grantees are able to produce brief reports that tell their story using the RBA data they collected throughout the grant period. Many grantees have shared that this opportunity led them to adopt RBA as their agency-wide evaluation framework. In addition, Facente Consulting is writing and designing brief summary reports to keep Gilead informed of progress among grantees and opportunities for technical assistance to support grantees.
